About Pawhopper
Why this exists, what it is and is not, and how it is built.
Updated 2026-10-12
Pet travel rules are published by dozens of governments, as pages, PDFs and forms, each answering only its own part of the question. Nobody answers the one a pet owner actually has:“What exactly does my pet need for this trip, in what order, by what date?” Pawhopper does.
What it is
- A planner that combines the rules of the country you leave, any layover, and the country you enter, and turns them into a dated checklist.
- A library of country guides and plain-language explainers built from the same rule files, so what you read always matches what the planner computes.
- Open about its sources: every requirement shows the official sentence and links to the page.
What it is not
- Not a government service, and not affiliated with one. The authority you travel to or from has the final say.
- Not veterinary or legal advice. Your vet knows your pet; the authority decides what is accepted.
- Not a pet transport company. We don’t sell flights, crates or relocation services, and we have no commercial relationship with any airline or shipper, so nothing here is steered towards a seller.
How it is built
The rules are plain data files, not scraped and not generated when you load a page. They are drafted with the help of an AI assistant (Claude, made by Anthropic) that works only from the text of the official page, and every requirement keeps the exact official sentence it came from. Software checks those sentences against the live page, and a strict schema validates the files. A single, generic engine turns them into dates: it has no country-specific code, and every change is tested against trips worked out by hand from the official text. Read how we verify rules for the details.
Veterinarians or licensed professionals have not reviewed these files yet. Where a summary is short or unconfirmed, the page says so with an “under review” label, and the official page it links to is always the authority.
