Taking a dog or cat out of Malaysia

Exit rules verifiedLimited official guidanceChecked 2026-10-10Authority: Department of Veterinary Services

The steps the authorities in Malaysia require before your pet leaves, mostly the health certificate and who has to sign or endorse it. The destination adds its own requirements on top: pick it below, or make a dated plan.

We’re re-checking these rules. An official source they rely on has changed since we last verified them, so something here may be out of date. Before you book or travel, confirm the details with Department of Veterinary Services.

Limited official guidance. Department of Veterinary Services publishes little for this route. Everything it does say is here, with its wording. The Department of Veterinary Services' import and export page says only that exporting animals follows its own procedures and the import conditions of the destination country's veterinary authority. It publishes no pet-specific procedure, certificate, deadline or fee for leaving Malaysia that we could find: ask DVS or MAQIS (feedback@maqis.gov.my) what your destination needs.

    Good to know

    • Exporting animals from Malaysia must follow the Department of Veterinary Services' procedures and the import conditions set by the veterinary authority of the destination country. Find out the destination's requirements first.
    • For problems with an import or export permit application, contact MAQIS at feedback@maqis.gov.my.
