The health certification is valid for 10 days. The vet attaches the original vaccination card (vaccines and dates, microchip date, sterilisation if any, internal and external parasite treatments) and any extra document your destination asks for.

Good to know
- Young pets that are not yet fully protected against rabies cannot enter the EU from a non-EU country — in practice your pet must be at least about 15 weeks old (12 weeks at vaccination + 21 days).
- Some EU countries have their own rules on certain dog breeds. Check the destination country's national pet travel page.
- Before you apply, check your destination's entry requirements and your airline's rules, and the rules of any country your pet transits. If your destination isn't covered by Agrocalidad's list, contact certificacion.zoosanitaria@agrocalidad.gob.ec (02 3828860, ext. 2012 or 2013).
- Your pet doesn't need a clinical inspection at Agrocalidad before leaving (the registered vet records it online), but Agrocalidad carries out random inspections before boarding.
- Going to the European Union, your pet needs a rabies antibody test at an EU-approved lab and the EU's non-commercial health certificate, filled in by a registered vet and checked, signed and stamped by Agrocalidad. If the blood sample is taken in Ecuador, your pet must wait 3 months before going. A pet returning to the EU with an EU pet passport, a rabies vaccination given in the EU that is still valid and a valid antibody test can go without Agrocalidad's export certificate.
