Exit guide

Taking a dog or cat out of Greece

Exit rules verifiedLimited official guidanceChecked 2026-10-10Authority: Ministry of Rural Development and Food

The steps the authorities in Greece require before your pet leaves, mostly the health certificate and who has to sign or endorse it. The destination adds its own requirements on top: pick it below, or make a dated plan.

We’re re-checking these rules. An official source they rely on has changed since we last verified them, so something here may be out of date. Before you book or travel, confirm the details with Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

Limited official guidance. Ministry of Rural Development and Food publishes little for this route. Everything it does say is here, with its wording. The ministry's page lists published requirements and certificates only for a few destinations and does not describe the general procedure, deadlines or fees. Ask your regional veterinary service which certificate and stamp your destination needs.

The steps

    Good to know

    • The ministry publishes health requirements or veterinary certificates for dogs and cats for these destinations: Australia, Norway, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates and Serbia, plus Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay (Mercosur), and a general certificate for the USA, Canada and countries that ask only for rabies vaccination. It also lists requirements for Japan, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and Brazil. For any other destination, ask the destination and your regional veterinary service. When: You do not travel to any EU country, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Vatican City
    • Planning to bring your pet back to the EU? After a short stay in a non-EU country you can skip the 3-month wait after the rabies blood test, but only if, before you leave the EU, your pet was vaccinated against rabies, passed a successful titer test, and your vet recorded both in its EU pet passport. So do the blood test before you go.When: You do not travel to any EU country, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Vatican City
