Requirement

Import permit for pet travel: what it is and who requires it

Permission to enter, issued before you travel. What a import permit is, why authorities require it, and the exact requirement in every country we cover, quoted from the official source.

Updated 2026-10-12

Some countries want to approve each pet before it travels. You apply for an import permit (sometimes called an import licence), usually online, and it is valid for a limited number of days.

A permit that expires before your pet arrives is useless, so its validity window and your travel date have to line up.

What to watch for

  • Permit validity is short: 90 days for the UAE and Singapore, 30 days for Saudi Arabia, one month for Qatar. A permit that expires before arrival has to be renewed.
  • Applications are sometimes a deadline in their own right: Saudi Arabia asks for them at least 15 days before shipping.

Who requires it, and exactly how

Each entry below is taken from the country’s rule file and links to the page it comes from. Where a rule only applies to some pets or origins, the condition is shown.
