Pet travel route
Dog or cat from South Africa to Morocco: the rules
We can’t tell you yet. ONSSA has a certificate agreed specifically with your country (South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Tunisia or Russia). Some of these differ from the general model, for example in when the rabies blood test is taken. We haven't covered them yet: ask your country's official veterinary service for the Morocco certificate.

In short
- Morocco puts South Africa in the group “Country with its own agreed certificate”, which decides part of the rules.
- Pets from South Africa can still go elsewhere: the South Africa exit page lists every destination and how long each takes.
- The Morocco page shows which countries it accepts pets from.
Limited official guidance. The authority for leaving South Africa publishes little for this route. Everything it does say is here, with its wording. In South Africa a state veterinarian of your province certifies your pet's export health certificate (the national Department of Agriculture's information pack confirms this is a provincial task). The only province whose pet guidance we could read is the Western Cape (its page, and info sheets from 2023 and 2024), so the booking time and fee here are the Western Cape's. Other provinces may book, charge and time things differently: ask your provincial state vet office, and check the destination's own requirements.
Limited official guidance. The authority for entering Morocco publishes little for this route. Everything it does say is here, with its wording. Morocco's food safety office (ONSSA) publishes no guide for pet owners, only the model health certificates your country's vet must sign (as scanned documents) and its fee list. The models set no minimum age. Every model also has the vet certify that your pet has lived in a country or area free of rabies for the last 6 months (the US model says premises); only the UK explains how its vets read this, so if your pet comes from a country where rabies is present, ask ONSSA or the official vet service in your country before you travel.
